Welcome back to the Five Pawns Kitchen Blog! This month’s recipe is an ode to our Original Flavor series, highlighting some of our most adored ingredients. Inspired by the Dark Chocolate of Bowden’s Mate, the Chopped Walnuts of Black Flag Risen, and the delicious Bananas of Grandmaster. Take this trio of indulgence, add a few other key ingredients, bake to perfection and thank us later…

Prep Time: 10 Minutes

Cook Time: 55 Minutes

Servings: 1 Loaf (Serves 6)


  • 1¼ Cup All-Purpose Flour
  • ¼ Cup Cocoa Powder
  • 1¼ Teaspoon Cinnamon Powder
  • ¾ Teaspoon Nutmeg Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • A Pinch of Salt
  • ½ Cup Chopped Walnuts
  • 3 Ripe Bananas
  • ⅓ Cup Melted Butter
  • 1 Large Egg
  • ½ Cup Sugar


  1. Preheat oven to 350°F
  2. Sift Cocoa Powder into All-Purpose Flour
  3. Proceed to add Baking Soda, Cinnamon Powder, Nutmeg Powder and Salt to the same bowl. Mix until combined evenly.
  4. In a separate large bowl, mash bananas until all big lumps are removed.
  5. Add melted butter to the bowl and mix well. Stir in egg and sugar.
  6. Add flour mixture and chopped walnuts to the bowl of wet ingredients. With a wooden spoon, gently fold the mixture into itself, being careful not to overmix.
  7. Pour the mixed batter into a 4”x8” loaf pan and bake for 50-60 minutes. Baking time will vary, you can ensure that your bread is cooked thoroughly by inserting a toothpick into the center of the loaf until it comes out clean.
  8. Remove the loaf pan from the oven and let bread cool inside the pan for 5-10 minutes before transferring the bread to a cooking rack.
